Catching up with Wild Rivers

Last month Canadian indie trio Wild Rivers released a stunning new single ‘Everywhere I Go’. For fans of Noah Kahan, Maggie Rogers and Dermot Kennedy this one is for you.

They have already had a major 2024 opening for Noah Kahan on his UK/EU tour, we chatted to them about the new single (its on repeat for the Pleaser Aus team), touring and future Australia plans!

I really loved what you (Khalid) said about your grandpa and how he shaped the song, how does it feel to release this song and let everyone hear it because it is so personal?

It’s cool, I honestly didn’t expect it! I write a lot of love and break up songs and I know that people relate to those. For whatever reason I didn’t know if people would necessarily connect with something so introspective and personal. But a lot of people have! It feels like our audience is growing up with us and thinking about different things. It’s cool to put yourself out there in a different way and be heard. And I think my grandpa would be really happy to know that – he was the sentimental type.

Have you played this song live? If yes, how was that experience?

We got to perform “Everywhere I Go” each night of the Noah Kahan tour. The song has intricate production, so it was fun to strip it back for the live version. We were new to a lot of Noah’s audience. It was a great part of the set for the audience to get to know us a bit. Khal would tell the meaning behind the song, and it seemed to draw people in to listen intently.

You create such beautiful connections with your audiences, has there been any surprising or unexpected interactions with fans/audience?

We have been really fortunate to make connections with our listeners around North America and Europe. There have been some familiar faces that we’ve got to see at many shows in many different places over the years. We’ve even had some hardcore fans get lyrics tattooed on them (including one typo, oops!!)

Touring with Noah Kahan, can you tell us how it felt when you were asked to join the UK/EU tour? How was it?

It blew our minds. We’ve been fans of Noah’s music for years and have had some mutual friends. His career is on an absolute rocket ship, and it’s been so cool to watch. And even cooler to be taken along for the ride. His fans show up six hours early to get good spots, and sing every single word of his set. It feels like a great time to be in whatever genre this is, and so good to have him leading the charge. 10/10, we will open for Noah any chance we get!

What is one thing your audience can expect at a Wild Rivers show?

You can expect a steady rotation of goofiness and intimate/sincere musical moments. While a lot of the songs are on the sad side, we are having more fun and joking around during our set than ever, and it seems to create a palpable vibe in the room.

Will we be seeing you in Australia soon? (We hope so!)

We have been working on this for a while! It is truly at the top of our list for the bands next new tour location. We have so much love for the Australian music scene, and we have an awesome amount of people streaming from Australian cities. It won’t be too long from now! You’ll have to give us some good food recommendations, please :)
