Despite being newer to the Australian music scene, Charlie Pittman is a name you need to know. He moved to Australia to chase his dreams of being an artist, and he is taking over the industry by storm. His latest release, ‘i don’t wanna be here’, just dropped and is the perfect angsty pop banger to add to your playlist.

Charlie is originally from the UK but recently moved to Eora/Sydney, where he has quickly made a name for himself. When asked to compare the UK and Aussie music scenes, he shared that Australia “has opened up so many more opportunities that [he] didn’t have in the UK.” He shared that Australia's music community is more tight-knit, which has allowed him to find many other artists to collaborate with.

His new release, “i don’t wanna be here,” describes the feeling of wanting to be somewhere else, even if it might not be possible. Charlie wrote the song during COVID when he had to move back home with his family. Despite loving spending time with them, he felt he had lost his sense of independence. He took these feelings and went “into a session with a few lyrics already written, [such as] I’m saving in rent/but paying in patience.” From there, he built up the song by crafting it around other built-up emotions from the experience.

He shared his favorite lyric from the song with Pleaser:
I can’t say that I didn't try/catch me at my funeral before I stop trying.

“[That lyric] is one of my favorites because [it represents that] I’m not going to give up; I’m always going to be pushing for something else no matter what my circumstance is. I’ll make it work somehow and always come out of it better. I’d rather die trying than not try at all.”

Not only is the song filled with perfectly crafted, relatable lyrics, but it also has a fun pop-punk sound. If you’re a fan of recent projects by bands such as The Band CAMINO or Olivia Rodrigo, you’ll likely love the song. Charlie notes that this sound differs from his past releases, but fans should expect more of this in the future.

“This song represents a complete genre shift from the stuff I have out.” He is excited about the more upbeat songs, especially playing this music live since it’s “bandy and big.”

Charlie noted that he hasn’t released music in a while, but despite feeling nervous, he is extremely excited. He shared that “it's the most anticipation I've had for a release…people seem really excited.” We definitely relate to this excitement.

Charlie’s latest single, “i don’t wanna be here,” is out now on all streaming platforms.

If you want to hear the music live (I know we do), Charlie has a show in Sydney supporting Drax Project on 04 April. If you don’t live in Sydney, stay tuned on his social media for future show announcements.
