JAWNY Concert Review
Written by Lindsey Dadourian
Philadelphia-born artist JAWNY was not going to let his hometown down even though he wasn’t feeling the greatest. We can all say a big thanks to Amoxicillin for giving us one of the best shows I have ever been to. JAWNY, previously known as Johnny Utah, played at The Foundry at the Fillmore on November 10th and gave us banger after banger, bringing amazing stage energy and interacting with the crowd.
Opening up for JAWNY, was Spill Tab, who you might know because of their song together, “Grade A”. Despite the two not performing their track together, she effortlessly carried the song and did not leave the crowd disappointed.
The LA-based artist also performed, “Calvaire,” a song native to her French language, which left the whole venue mesmerized.
Closing out with “PISTOLWHIP”, Spill Tab successfully had the crowd jumping. Everyone in the audience buzzed with excitement for JAWNY’s performance.
The fans were ready to hear their favorite songs play, and were soon satisfied as the indie pop singer played hits including “Honeypie”, “Anything You Want”, and “Super Bad Mantra”, which is from his most recent EP, For Abby, released on October 27th.
I love the Foundry as a venue because of how intimate it is, with a cap size of 450, and JAWNY made the most of the night. As the show went on, he kept the crowd on their toes by encouraging fans to sing along, teaching them new verses, and staying enthusiastic throughout the whole night. He expressed how sad he was for being unable to hang out with fans after shows due to covid-19 and it was honestly comforting to see the supportive relationship between him and his fans.
Unfortunately, the lively evening had to come to an end but to the crowd’s delight, JAWNY doubled down on his encore with “Take It Back.”
Overall, JAWNY is an incredible performer and is a must catch on tour so make sure to see if he’s going to be in your area soon!
