Hothead Wave Bringing a Taste of Indie Garage-Rock to Music City
Hothead Wave, a new indie garage-rock band making their mark in the Nashville music scene, is quite the force to be reckoned with. Lead singer, producer, and songwriter Lizzy Cruz’s edgy vocals backed by loud guitars and melodies create a sound so unique that listeners won’t be able to get enough of it. Hothead Wave goes beyond being merely a band, between finding her voice in Music City and beginning the journey of big things coming from the band, it stands as an indication to the strength found as cultural diversity and the unifying force of music.
The debut single “Here,” released on January 19, pulls inspiration from artists such as The Pixies, Foo Fighters and Paramore. It carries a message of self-acceptance and the importance of surrounding yourself around those who embrace your authenticity. Cruz addresses the harmful impact of comparisons in the lyrics, emphasizing the need for self-kindness during those challenging moments: “Every comparison made me a mess.”
After unveiling their single “Here,” Hothead Wave marked their debut performance as a band on the 21st for the single release show at The Basement. It provided the perfect platform for Cruz to showcase some of the other meticulously crafted singles that the band had been working on and has had up their sleeve to reveal to the rest of the world at some point throughout their career. The band gave everyone at The Basement just a little taste of what is yet to come from them, leaving everyone in the room wanting more.
As they wrapped up the set, Cruz stated that Music City was more than just country. Hothead Wave is not only injecting indie garage-rock into Nashville’s music scene, but is making an impact on the music industry that goes beyond genre boundaries.
