2022 is rapidly shaping up to be the year of Wolf Alice, having already won the Brit award for best British group and securing a slot on this year's Glastonbury line-up the alternative rock band are quite simply on a roll. The group, consisting of singer Ellie Rowsell, guitarist Joff Oddie, bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey released their critically acclaimed album ‘Blue Weekend’ in 2021 which was also nominated for that years Mercury Prize. Since the release of the spectacular album the group have been on a monumental rise to the top and were finally able to take the piece of work on the road as they set out across the UK on a tour through some of the UK’s most iconic venues. We were lucky enough to catch the band as they played night one of two sold-out nights at Manchester’s infamous O2 Apollo. Support for the night came from Lucia & The Beast Boys.
As Wolf Alice took to the stage you could literally feel the roof lift off the place as the crowd erupted, it was evident fans had been desperate for this moment for a very long time and it was now time to let it all out. The band got the night started in a classy way with ‘Smile’, before leading into several fan favourites like ‘Bros’ and ‘Silk’ as the night went on. The band played a wide variety of songs from their long-spanning discography and there was a real warmth flowing through the packed-out Manchester venue, it was a special moment to be a part of and everyone in the building knew it. This was a gig that could’ve last forever, both the band and fans in attendance didn’t skip a beat and the energy levels were unmatched, the night ended in spectacular fashion however with the encore songs ‘The Last Man on Earth’ and ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’. It was the perfect way to end a perfect night.
