‘Body’: The Power of Music

By Molly Greco

One of Nashville’s most beloved hometown indie-rock artists, Briston Maroney, gave everyone quite the eventful day on May 16. Maroney announced the second year of his three-day festival ‘Paradise’ that will be taking place in Nashville the weekend of October 12. On top of that, he also announced his upcoming album, Ultrapure, will be released September 22. Along with those announcements, his leading single, “Body,” dropped with an accompanying music video. Briston fans, how is everyone holding up?

Right from the start of “Body,” listeners get a taste of the energetic guitar riffs as they start to follow this vulnerable journey of a song. The beginning draws you in and makes you want more. Maroney’s lively and raw sound allows the listeners to fully emerge into the indie-rock scene. Along with Maroney’s captivating melodies, his personable lyrics are just as great to follow.

‘Body’ is an example of that intimate lyricism. Both Maroney’s single and the music video portray a feeling of finding yourself and freedom. The lyrics take the listeners on a journey about being in the moment, being who you are and trying not to focus on the things that you cannot control. As a person, Maroney has always been one to encourage others and be truly himself while opening up and letting his fans in along his journey in life and his music.

Through the emotion of his lyrics, Maroney’s music leaves a lingering impact on those who listen and are able to connect. Whether it is his catchy melodies or his infectious energy that draw people in, Maroney knows how to keep them coming back for more and reminds everyone how powerful music can really be in the message it portrays.

Briston Maroney is leaving his mark on the indie-rock scene, this is just a taste of what is yet to come. Make sure to keep an eye out for more Maroney has up his sleeve and get excited for Ultrapure, as entering this new era of music is just the beginning of a journey of reflection and self-acceptance.
