PLEASER X Triple J Hottest 100 2024

It’s the hottest music event of Australia’s calendar year; Triple J’s Hottest 100. The countdown of all countdowns; the only ranking in Australia’s music scene that seems to matter.

The 2.3 million votes cast highlighted the up-and-coming Australian artists and solidified the names we all know and love as forces within our industry.

So let me run you through my personal (and biased) rundown of 2024’s Hottest 100 must listen to. And because I cannot unpack all 100 songs, I will selfishly hit my own personal highlights of this year's Countdown.

Australian artist G Flip not only managed to break the record for the most number of entries in a single year (7), but they also secured 2nd place for their single ‘Worst Person Alive’ (should have been higher).

Teenage Dad’s Like A Version; a cover of The Buggles' 'Video Killed The Radio Star’ matched the original's ranking of 79, when it featured in 1998s ‘Of All Time’ Countdown.

The Rions ‘Minivan’ was one of the band’s three mentions in this year’s lineup

Budjerah’s ‘Therapy’ was a debut for the artist, who entered the charts at number 19

Angie McMahon’s ‘Letting Go’

Pacific Avenue’s ‘Spin Me Like Your Records’

Thelma Plum’s ‘We Don’t Talk About it’

Spacey Jane’s ‘Sorry Instead’

Slowly Slowly’s Like A Version; a cover of Blink 182’s ‘I Miss You’

For those who missed it, the Hottest 200 - the countdown to 101 - played on Sunday and featured the songs that just missed out on the prestigious top places. Personal favourites The Buoys, Royal Otis, Old Mervs and The Vanns all made an appearance on the list for their 2023 hits.

Go do yourself a favour and go check out the latest and greatest hits from 2023 before you’re overrun with the newest releases of 2024; you can thank me later.
