Muroki: A Visual Diary creating ‘Timezones’

Muroki returns with the EP Timezones which we at Pleaser have already fallen in love with.

Speaking of the EP, Muroki explains “it’s a black soul record which speaks to the rainbow of emotions and experiences that I've endured throughout my relationship. My aim was to pull together an array of my favourite genres – everything from rhythm & blues and hip hop, to indie and funk - all tied together with a cheeky, sexy, soulful vocal.” Muroki put together a visual diary of the creation of the Timezones for Pleaser.

This is me recording vocals for Middle Ground at Big Fan studios in Auckland.

I took this photo of Dave Hammer ordering us some overpriced pastrami sandwiches in his home studio in LA.

I woke up with crusty lips, so I went to this cool looking food Market in Echo Park to buy some lip balm before a 12 hour studio session.

I only had one day off on this writing trip and my friend Kyle took me out to Malibu. We scored some waves, drank some modelos and I experienced eating an American McDonald’s cheeseburger for the first time.

Here is a snap of my Zoom friend/collaborator ‘Nasaya’. This was the first day we had met in real life. We decided to go and geek out at some guitars in Hollywood for an hour or so.

That beautiful Los Angeles sun decided to come. It was definitely helping my hangover in this photo. 

This was a cafe down the road from where I was staying. I enjoyed walking down there most mornings and listening to yesterday’s work.  The food there was kinda average, but the umbrellas were dope!

This is Dave Hammer and I emerging from our cave and getting some natural light into this EP. 

Here’s a snap of BENEE standing in a car park, in-front of a very vibrant building. I believe we were getting cash out before heading to a flea market.

I took this photo in LAX on my way home to New Zealand. Not gonna lie, it did make me giggle a bit. It was a little reminder of how ridiculous the world is. 

This photo P-nut took of me recording the first verse of Lady Trouble in Berlin, Germany. I do remember being jacked up on matte during this session.
