“Change My Mind” Single Review

By Kenzie Bright

Brooklyn artist Anna Shoemaker has released the third single from her upcoming debut album: Change My Mind

Fresh off of a collaboration with Middepart in her last single It’s Depression, Shoemaker has been working hard on her debut while also making appearances in a few live shows, the latest with musician Joe P.

In her new track, Shoemaker makes quite a statement about her talent in her newest track, combining alternative. indie, and pop genres into a track that flows from a simple acoustic melody to a dynamic arrangement that compliments Shoemaker’s vocals perfectly.

If there’s anyone who can detail the haze of trying to figure things out, it’s definitely her. The pain of seeing someone you used to have an emotional affair with is an ugly one, yet she makes it sound bittersweet. She knows that if she sees them, she’ll have to play it cool while she’s dying inside. And if you know the feeling, you’ll find yourself right in Anna’s shoes.

“I might die a little bit inside if I see you tonight / So don’t come here / I might lie and say that I’m alright if I see you tonight / so don’t come here.”

“Maybe I'll be okay in the morning / Change my mind I’ll be fine without warning / Yeah, I’m alright / Everything is fine.”

But perhaps there will be a breakthrough, and none of it will matter in the morning. Toying with the idea of faking it until you make it, the song’s title comes from its chorus and how she could just “changer her mind” in the morning and get over these feelings. But, as we all know, sometimes it’s not that easy. Perhaps she’s right, that is all their fault. But even if it is, we sure got a banger out of it.

If you’re fond of the sounds of indie pop and acoustic rock stylings, “Change My Mind” definitely has a place in your rotation. Especially if you’re in the midst of trying to get yourself back together again. Be sure to keep an eye out for her debut; if Change My Mind is just a taste of what’s to come, Shoemaker is sure to bring her A-game.
